When my niece and nephew got professional photos taken for the first time, I was shocked. They didn’t look like themselves, at all! They were unnaturally posed, in outfits they would have never picked out, and with forced smiles - the kind where the joy doesn’t reach the eyes. I was devastated. Is this how I am supposed to remember these bubbly, wild, enthusiastic, creative, laughing kids?
MY PHILOSOPHY
When we look back on photos of our kids, we want to remember them as they were, not as a strange photographer decided they should be. I approach family photography with a photojournalism background, capturing your shining, messy, beautiful, joyous children as they really are in that stage of their lives. My approach is unique: I meet you in a familiar place where your kids are 100% at home and comfortable, and I spend the “shoot” following you as you laugh together, play together, make messes together, and clean together, resulting in gloriously real photos of your gloriously real kids.
No more stuffy photos, with “gun-to-the-head smiles” in a white room. These are the moments you cherish today, and the photos you’ll cherish forever.
That runny nose 1-year-old smile and oldest-brother hands on the hips pose are worth capturing. The way your baby giggles when you dance and your 4-year old side-eyes the dessert table deserve to be memorialized.
